Jeff Tremaine (birthname: Jeffrey James Tremaine) is part of the triumvirate (with performer Johnny Knoxville and producer-filmmaker Spike Jonze) who created the wild, stunt-filled comedy, Jackass, first as an MTV series which aired in 2000 and 2001, and then was developed into a feature film franchise running from 2002 to 2026 via MTV Films and Paramount Pictures. Tremaine was director/producer of the debut movie, Jackass: The Movie (2002), co-starring Knoxville (who also produced with Jonze), Bam Margera, Chris Pontius, Steve-O, Dave England and Ryan Dunn playing themselves (as they do in all of the series movies), and grossing a fabulous $79.5 million for distributors Paramount Pictures/MTV Films (based on estimated costs).
Tremaine continued with the long-running Jackass series as director/writer/producer (as well as appearing as himself) for the next four theatrical features: Jackass Number Two (2006), Jackass 3D (2010), Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa (2013), and Jackass Forever (2022), all of which grossed a cumulative $488.6 million for Paramount Pictures. Tremaine completed the run as director/writer/producer of the final movie in the franchise, Jackass: Best and Last (2026), with the crazed team again led by Johnny Knoxville and Steve-O, produced by MTV Entertainment Studios/Dickhouse Entertainment and released wide by Paramount Pictures.
Jeff Tremaine appeared as himself in directors/writers/producers Gregg Godfrey’s and Jeremy Rawle’s universally panned feature version of the MTV series (which Tremaine co-created), Nitro Circus: The Movie (2012), grossing a poor $4.2 million globally (based on estimated costs) for distributor ARC Entertainment and scored a mere 6% on Rotten Tomatoes. Tremaine took an executive producer credit on director/producer/cinematographer David Siev’s debut indie documentary, Bad Axe (2022), premiering at the South by Southwest Film Festival and released to little box office by IFC Films.
Jeff Tremaine was born in Durham, North Carolina, and raised by his parents in Durham, moving to several other U.S. cities and towns (because of his military family’s assignments) until settling in Rockville, Maryland. Tremaine attended and graduated in 1987 from Walt Whitman High School in Bethesda, Maryland. Tremaine then studied graphic design and graduated from the St. Louis-based Washington University in 1990. Tremaine has been married to producer/podcaster/author Laura Tremaine since 2007; the couple has two children and lives in Los Angeles. Tremaine’s height is 5’ 10”. Tremaine’s estimated net worth is $45 million.
